Campbell's History
We are often asked if we are related to the Campbell’s. We are not. Peter Campbell who was known locally as “Jock” and his family moved to Alton in 1946 to the fishmongers shop in Normandy Street which was opposite the now demolished Police Station where he ran a wet fish and fish and chips business. He also had mobile fish and chip vans and you can see some of his adverts in our shop. Jock was also very well known for his bee keeping.
Campbell’s has been at its’ present location since the early 70’s. Jock was assisted by his daughter with the day to day running of Campbell’s and when the current owners bought the shop from Jock’s daughter she asked if we would call the shop Campbell’s, which we were delighted to do as we had not thought of a name at that point! We love the history that Campbell’s brings with it and many of our customers remember Jock who was a real character by all accounts.
